Jonathan Power

Jonathan Power became Liverpool FC's club doctor during the 2022-23 season.

A Reds fan since childhood, he joined Jürgen Klopp's backroom staff at the AXA Training Centre after more than a decade working across several sporting disciplines, including extensive experience in football.

Hailing from West Derby, he studied at Leeds University and then went on to achieve a master's degree in sports and exercise medicine at the University of Nottingham before completing higher specialist training in sport and exercise medicine in Yorkshire.

After serving as head of medical services at Leeds Rugby, encompassing work with Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire Carnegie, Jonathan moved to the Football Association.

During his time at the FA he worked with a range of England teams across the age groups as a performance medicine doctor, from U15s up and through to the senior men's and women's teams.

In addition, Power was a matchday doctor for Brentford for several years and went to two editions of the Olympic Games – as the lead doctor for aquatics at London 2012, then as part of the Team GB triathlon set-up for Tokyo 2020.

Most recently, he embarked on a new role in Bermuda – consultant in sport and exercise medicine at the Centre for Sport and Orthopaedic Medicine – that included work with the national football team.

On the decision to come back to Merseyside and join LFC, he said: "The opportunity to return to Liverpool, where I grew up and where my family still live, was obviously a big draw.

"Returning to work in this environment at the top level of the national game at the best club in the world really excited me.

"Also, the big thing for me is the performance and medical department, the people who are there. The medical staff that we've got are at the highest, highest level and hopefully I can add value to the department and make it even better than it is.

"Everyone who is there is striving for it to be the best medical department in the world and that kind of attitude and those kinds of people create the ideal environment.

"The challenge of working with the best people and making it even better is something that drives me every day."
