First-team doctor

Amit Pannu

Amit Pannu joined Liverpool FC's backroom team in July 2024 as a first-team doctor.

His addition to the staff added a wealth of experience to the medical department, with Amit boasting more than 20 years of professional work within sport.

He studied medicine at the University of Leeds and gained his postgraduate qualification in sports and exercise medicine from the University of Bath.

Amit's work in professional sport began in rugby league at Super League outfit Huddersfield Giants as a chief medical officer. Alongside this role, he later worked at international level with England RL as a first-team physician, including at tournaments such as the Four Nations and World Cup.

After 12 years working in rugby, Pannu made the switch to football in 2014, joining Blackburn Rovers as a club doctor, before later taking up the role of head of sports medicine at the club.

Three years later he opted to make the move to Derby County in a similar role, ahead of becoming chief medical officer with the Rams.

Alongside his work at Derby County, he also spent time as club doctor to rugby union side Leicester Tigers in a dual role, departing both positions to join Liverpool in the summer of 2024.

His role with the Reds is to primarily work with the men's senior players, helping provide acute medical care and assisting with injury diagnosis, assessment and rehabilitation.

"When I found out there was a job at Liverpool, which is a historic and amazing club, I jumped at the chance to apply and was lucky enough to be appointed," he said.

"I was keen to work with Jon Power and it was an incredible opportunity to work with all the excellent players and staff here.

"I'm keen to play my part in helping the department be the best that it can be. It's a dream for me, really, having been a Liverpool fan since a young age."
