John Heitinga arrived at Liverpool FC to join Arne Slot’s staff as assistant coach in July 2024.

A former Netherlands international defender, Heitinga left West Ham United – where he was first-team assistant coach – following the 2023-24 season.

The Dutchman spent that campaign as part of David Moyes’ backroom team having started his coaching career with AFC Ajax.

Spells with Ajax bookended Heitinga’s playing career – which saw him earn 87 international caps and also represent clubs including Atletico Madrid and Everton – and he was a youth coach for the Amsterdam outfit before being appointed interim head coach of their senior side in January 2023.
