Niamh Russell was appointed interim assistant coach of Liverpool FC Women in March 2025 by interim head coach Amber Whiteley.

The Glasgow native joined the Reds in 2023, moving south to help oversee the development of the next generation of young players at the AXA Melwood Training Centre.

Russell stepped up from her former role as assistant coach with LFC Women’s Pro-Game Academy and will continue to have some responsibilities with the club’s U21s.

She has previous experience working within the girls’ academy at Rangers as U16s head coach and U19s assistant coach, alongside time with the Scottish FA in the national youth set-up.

Russell said: "I’m really excited that Amber has asked for me to come in and join her staff group.

"I'm looking forward to that exposure and working within the senior game and building some connections with the players in the squad."
