NewsWhy Wataru Endo will remain selfless and focused for Liverpool
Wataru Endo will continue putting the team first as a valued member of Arne Slot’s Liverpool squad.
The Japan captain has been restricted to two starts for the club this season, both in the Carabao Cup, but is regularly entrusted by Slot to help close out Premier League and Champions League games from the bench.
The head coach has publicly praised Endo’s quality and attitude and the midfielder has spoken of his desire to play his part in the Reds’ pursuit of trophies on all fronts.
“If the manager changes I think the playing style also changes and players have to adapt there first,” Endo says, in episode two of the Red Machine podcast, released by Kodansha.
“Now, I don’t play a lot of games, but I always focus on what I can do for this club and what I can do to help my teammates, or the new manager.
“So, I think I really focus on that and I am obviously happy to be part of it and to be a player for Liverpool.
“I have talked with him [Slot]. He told me the same thing that he said in the interview so I think that’s what I needed to do at the moment and I am so glad that he knows that I always try to work hard on the pitch.
“I’m good that he came to me and we talked about that. You know, I think to play for Liverpool is not easy. The manager told me: ‘We need everyone.’ Not only me, everyone is working hard in every training session and every minute they have got.”
Endo joined Liverpool in the summer of 2023 and relishes the intensity and passion of Premier League football.
“Yes, I love it very much,” he states.
“I still remember the first time I played at Anfield the atmosphere was really amazing and all the fans are very supportive of us. It’s great.”
