NewsFactfile: Seven things to know about Julia Bartel
Julia Bartel has joined Liverpool FC Women on loan for the rest of the campaign from Chelsea.
Here are seven facts to know about the 20-year-old midfielder…
She came through the ranks at Barcelona. Bartel actually started her youth career at Espanyol, though credits Barcelona – who she joined in 2019 – for a lot of her footballing education. She joined their academy ranks, before making the step up to the B team.

And she won back-to-back league titles. Primarily representing Barcelona's B team – who play in the Spanish second tier – she helped her side win back-to-back league titles in 2022-23 and 2023-24.
She has Champions League experience. Bartel also secured game time for Barcelona's senior side, recording several appearances in Liga F and making her debut against FC Rosengard in the Women's Champions League.
And has extensive international honours. She has represented Spain at a number of youth levels, and won major honours. Bartel helped her nation to lift the U20 Women's World Cup in 2022 and is a two-time U19 European Championship winner (2022 and 2023).
She scored the winner in a Euros final. Bartel netted in stoppage time to secure Spain's U19 Euros triumph in 2022. Her 94th-minute strike earned a 2-1 victory over Norway in the final.
The highlight of her career so far is winning the World Cup. "If I had to pick one moment it would be the U20s World Cup final with Spain," Bartel said. "That was a hugely special moment and one I will always cherish."
She trained alongside her football idol. Bartel idolises Aitana Bonmati, the double Ballon d'Or Feminin-winning midfielder who plays for Barcelona and Spain. She said: "My idol in football is Aitana Bonmati... I am very grateful that I could spend so much time in Barcelona training with her, learning certain things from her. Aitana would be the player who has influenced [my game] the most so far."
