NewsDarwin Nunez wins Standard Chartered Men's Player of the Month
Darwin Nunez has been voted Liverpool's Standard Chartered Men's Player of the Month for February.
The striker takes home the prize for the second time this season after topping a fan poll on Liverpoolfc.com – finishing ahead of Stefan Bajcetic and Mohamed Salah.
Upon collecting the award at the AXA Training Centre, Nunez said of the backing he has received from supporters: "First of all, I'd like to thank the fans for that because as soon as you come out to warm up and then you hear your name being sung by the fans, it's just incredible and it gives me goosebumps.
"I've never heard anything like that before. It's really great for me and my wife too. Even she has said to me, 'It's incredible how they support you and are always behind you.' She always says to me that when I was struggling a bit with form in the first few games, the fans were always showing their support for me.
"They never gave up on me and were always onboard with me. Now it's all about thanking them and trying to make these fans as happy as possible."
The Uruguayan appeared four times for the Reds in February, scoring twice and laying on one assist.
He led the breakaway to set up Salah's counter-attacking goal in the Merseyside derby win over Everton at Anfield.
Nunez then netted in back-to-back fixtures as he opened the scoring in the victory at Newcastle United, before converting against Real Madrid in the Champions League with a stunning flick.
And the No.27 is determined to keep building on his form as he approaches the closing months of his debut campaign on Merseyside.
"I think I've settled in very well now," continued Nunez. "I think whenever you give 100 per cent in training, you give the same 100 per cent in games too.
"I think I'm performing well during the week in training and then I think in games I'm showing my ability and quality. I think that everything is going smoothly. I'm happy that I'm doing well and performing well.
"In terms of effort, in every single game I'm trying to give everything that I can for Liverpool and all of my teammates. You always have to work hard for the group because this league is very competitive, so you have to try hard to ensure things go well. I think in that sense things are going pretty well.
"Sure, of course I need to improve in one or two areas but that comes with training hard, and then things will happen smoothly in the matches."
