FoundationLFC welcomes charity football team Honeysuckle FC to AXA Training Centre
Honeysuckle FC, a charity football team for bereaved men affected by baby loss, were welcomed to the AXA Training Centre on behalf of Sorare, the global sports entertainment company, for a tour of the facilities and to watch Liverpool's men's team train.
Sorare, an official club partner, kindly donated its spaces on the tour to the charity, and LFC Foundation was on hand to facilitate the visit.
Created in partnership with the Honeysuckle Bereavement Team at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, Honeysuckle FC is a team for bereaved men who have been affected by baby loss.
More than 30 men attend sessions at Honeysuckle FC. Each bi-weekly session includes an hour of ‘changing room chat’ before they head out onto the field to train. This is an opportunity for the men to discuss their mental health, coping strategies, grief, wellbeing and share stories of hope.
The visit to the AXA Training Centre was facilitated by Sorare. As part of its partnership with the Reds, Sorare was offered the opportunity to visit and watch Jürgen Klopp’s squad train.
However, having recently met with LFC Foundation and hearing about the fantastic work that Honeysuckle FC do, Sorare decided to instead donate the experience to the charity football team.
Michael Tan, a player for Honeysuckle FC, said of the experience: “This was an amazing opportunity for a group of bereaved fathers who have connected through football thanks to LFC Foundation and the Liverpool Women’s Honeysuckle Bereavement Team.
“It was a unique day for everyone in attendance and there were some unforgettable memories made with an amazing group of people.”
Michael Meltzer, head of business development at Sorare, said: “At Sorare, we take pride in being able to provide real-life experiences through our game, enabling football fans to feel closer to the sport both on and off the pitch.
“We were truly honoured to have been able to support the incredible work LFC Foundation does with the Honeysuckle FC team in supporting bereaved fathers by donating this unique experience of seeing behind the scenes of one of the world’s most famous football clubs.”
