LFC midfielder Wataru Endo recently surprised a group of local school children who were enjoying a STEM session hosted by the LFC Foundation.

The surprise visit, which was filmed by BBC Match of the Day and featured on their Sunday morning show earlier this month, saw Wataru join in the session to learn about the STEM programme and take part in the engaging activities with the children.

The LFC Foundation’s STEM provision is delivered by the LFC Foundation through the Premier League Primary Stars programme in 14 primary schools each term across the Liverpool City Region and helps children develop key skills for the modern workforce, including in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The programme aims to inspire young people, especially those from disadvantaged communities, to engage with these subjects and give them better opportunities in the future.

During the session, the children were welcomed by LFC mascot Mighty Red before taking part in fun and engaging activities using the latest technology, including programming Sphero balls to move around a football pitch mat between players and building Lego footballers that are engineered to kick a ball.

While at the session, Wataru said: “I think through this programme the kids can learn a lot of things for the future and develop new skills and that’s very important. It was actually really fun for me as well. It’s important for local kids to get the opportunity.”
