FeatureWe Love You Liverpool: Meet Official LFC Supporters Club... Slovenia

The Reds’ fanbase is famous for its passion and loyalty, cheering on both the men’s and women’s squads whether on Merseyside or watching from afar.

Our We Love You Liverpool feature aims to bring supporters closer together to learn more about each other wherever they are based around the globe.

Whether in the UK and Republic of Ireland, on Merseyside itself, in North or South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia or elsewhere, fans provide the very foundations that the club is built on.

Here, we meet OLSC Slovenia...

Tell us about the OLSC…

Our story started in 2005. We set up an online forum and a website. We gathered there for a long time and then with the arrival of Facebook we set up a group there as well. Later, some of us started watching matches in person together and in April 2013 we decided it was time to become official. We had our founding session in Maribor and we’re proud to say we have over 600 members from all over Slovenia and even a few authentic Scousers who live in Slovenia now.

How special is it to have the supporters club where you are?

It’s very special. Liverpool FC is becoming more and more popular here and we’re getting new members every day. It feels good to provide a space for fans from all over the country to hang out together and also to connect with supporters from our neighbouring countries and ex-Yugoslavian countries we used to share a country with.

It must give you a sense of community and connection to Liverpool…

Absolutely. To us, football is more than the game, it is about bringing our members together with connections that go deeper than just supporting LFC.

What is so special about supporting Liverpool for your members?

It definitely has a lot to do with the club itself, its incredible history, and the foundation of the club. It’s something a lot of us relate to. And it’s also the fact that it’s more than just football for us.

Do you hold meet-ups for games, or any special events throughout the year?

We usually watch the games in a sports bar in Ljubljana, mostly with the locals. There are always more of us at derby games like Manchester United and other important games like any finals. We also organise special events. Our members from Maribor usually organise a Boxing Day matchday get-together and every year we also have an end-of-season picnic. In September 2023 we also organised a regional meeting for OLSCs from the former Yugoslavia and we had some visitors from Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary and Italy as well.

Has the OLSC ever visited Anfield?

We’re lucky enough that we get to send our members to Anfield every season. This past season we sent more than 50 people to Anfield for the first time and we hope we can send more next season. The experience is always superb. Everyone loves the city, the stadium, the club, and just the general vibe.

What is your favourite memory together as an OLSC?

Definitely our regional meet-up last year. It was a three-day event, with a total of more than 300 people gathering, with concerts, a football tournament, games, watching the LFC game, and hanging out with our friends from other OLSCs is always a blast.

Lastly, if anyone else is interested in joining your OLSC, how would they go about doing so?

They can do that by filling out a form on our website. It is a straightforward process, and with just a few clicks and confirmations, you become an official OLSC Slovenian supporter.
