FeatureWe Love You Liverpool: Meet Official LFC Supporters Club... Lausanne
The Reds' fanbase is famous for its passion and loyalty, cheering on both Jürgen Klopp and Matt Beard's squads whether on Merseyside or watching from afar.
Our We Love You Liverpool feature aims to bring supporters closer together to learn more about each other wherever they are based around the globe.
Whether in the UK and Republic of Ireland, on Merseyside itself, in North or South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia or elsewhere, fans provide the very foundations that the club is built on.
Here, we meet OLSC Lausanne…
Tell us about the OLSC…
OLSC Lausanne, or Swiss Liverbirds, was officially formed in July 2001 by a group of friends and supporters of Liverpool FC. From 50 members originally, we evolved up to 430 members when Liverpool won the Champions League and are now counting 355 active members.
How special is it to have the supporters club where you are?
We are very proud to be a member of the Liverpool FC family. Also knowing that we share the same value as thousands of supporters around the world makes us feel important to be part of this great institution and part of the history of the club.
It must give you a sense of community and connection to Liverpool and the club itself...
The Liverpool FC community is so strong, when travelling in Europe for games, or when you see the crowd when the senior team is on pre-season tour, it's incredible. The city of Liverpool and the games always give a sensation of security and respect. The activities of the club for the community are very strong and our supporters club aims to give also to our local community and to those in Liverpool. Therefore, part of our yearly membership fee is donated to various charities in Switzerland and Liverpool itself.
What is so special about supporting Liverpool for your members?
It's being a member of a family all around the world and the feeling of respect between the club and its supporters. You know that You'll Never Walk Alone. The anthem is so strong and so true.
Do you hold meet-ups for games, or any special events throughout the year?
Two or three times a year we watch games together in a local pub in Lausanne, Les Boucanniers, which opens only for us. Otherwise, it is complicated to have a designated public place to meet, with our members being from various regions of French-speaking Switzerland. We have created local sections, where members from the same region can meet. We hold at least two events per year – an AGM and a Christmas dinner. Each time in another location, with different events and activities. This is a great occasion to meet up with friends and supporters, and discover new places in Switzerland as well. We also meet when travelling to Anfield, or in Europe, and love to share our common passion for Liverpool FC.
What is your favourite memory together as an OLSC?
The friendly game in Geneva against Lyon in July 2019 remains the best souvenir (memory) for us. It was so exciting to have the Reds in our town, our country, and see thousands of other supporters travel to Switzerland. Thanks to the OLSC, we had a great day with an event with two legends John Barnes and Jason McAteer and the Champions League trophy in the afternoon. Then our young members were over the moon to have the chance to be mascots… imagine, walking into the ground with their idols… and then the game itself; the stadium full of Reds, the atmosphere and the chants.
Lastly, if anyone else is interested in joining your OLSC, how would they go about doing so?
It is very easy. On our website www.liverpoolfc.ch, which is available in French and English, you have the possibility to join online by completing an online form. You will become a member once the payment of the membership fee is complete and can enjoy the benefit of our club thereafter.
