Cody Gakpo believes Liverpool are firmly 'on the right track' after the Reds reached the Carabao Cup final in emphatic fashion on Thursday night.

Arne Slot's side secured their spot at Wembley next month thanks to a 4-0 victory in the second leg of the semi-final tie at Anfield as they overturned a 1-0 deficit against Tottenham Hotspur.

A goal from Gakpo alongside a Mohamed Salah penalty and efforts from Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk clinched the win.

As a result, Liverpool have set up a meeting with fellow Premier League outfit Newcastle United in the competition's showpiece at the national stadium on March 16.

"We are on the right track," Gakpo reflected to Sky Sports post-match. "We have to take it game by game and step by step.

"Today it's a good job done. We are in one final, but we have a lot to play for still. We have to stay calm and focus to reach as much as possible."

On an 'incredible' comeback in the tie…

I think the stadium helped a lot. We knew we had to come back from 1-0 behind. We went out there and tried to bring as much chances as possible. With the quality we have, we know we are going to get big chances and hopefully score. That happened and [it was] a very good performance I think from the whole team. It was a great win.

On the atmosphere at Anfield…

They were fantastic like always. They helped us a lot today and it gives us extra energy. We are very happy with these fans.

On everything 'falling into place' for Liverpool…

We are in a good flow at the moment, but we have to keep going. You know how football goes; it's about consistency and we have to keep the momentum.
