AnnouncementSusan Black to step down from Liverpool FC
Liverpool FC director of communications Susan Black will be stepping down at the end of the season after 14 successful years in senior roles across the club.
In addition to her primary role as director of communications, Susan also serves as a board member and executive director of Liverpool FC Women and a board member of LFC Foundation, the club’s official charity.
She has been primarily responsible for the club’s communications, engagement and employee communication functions, working with multiple external, internal and industry stakeholders.
In 2014, Susan created and led the club’s first LFC Foundation legends charity match to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough.
She was then invited to join the Foundation’s board of trustees. LFC Foundation has so far hosted eight legends matches – with a ninth, against Chelsea FC Legends, following on Saturday – and raised more than £8.5 million, all of which has been invested in tailored, purpose-driven community programmes to support young people and families in need.
In 2020, Susan was invited by Mike Gordon, president of FSG, to join him and CEO Billy Hogan to form the new board of directors for LFC Women.
While in this position, Susan led the board’s strategic decision-making that resulted in the team being promoted back to the Barclays Women’s Super League, saw increased investment into LFC Women and Pro Game Academy, enhanced club support to promote the teams, oversaw the reacquisition of the AXA Melwood Training Centre and was responsible for the appointment of the club’s first female ambassador.
Hogan said: “On behalf of the entire club, I would like to express my gratitude for Susan’s years of dedication and leadership across our communications, LFC Women and LFC Foundation functions.
“She has played a pivotal role in all three areas alongside her role as one of the long-standing members of our executive team and we thank her for her expertise and commitment. She has played an instrumental role in shaping our success and will be missed.
“We wish her well for the future and she will always be welcome at Anfield.”
Susan said: “It really has been a great privilege to work for this incredible football club over the last 14 years. We are blessed at LFC to have so many incredibly talented, gifted and professional individuals who work together to ensure our club goes from strength to strength.
“I am moving on but in the knowledge that the building blocks that are in place are strong and fit for the future.”
Craig Evans, currently LFC’s vice-president of communications, will be promoted to the role of senior vice-president of communications from June 1, 2025, assuming Susan’s communications responsibilities and leading the communications function.
Craig will report to Jonathan Bamber, currently LFC’s chief legal officer who will take on the role of chief legal and external affairs officer and will also become a trustee of LFC Foundation.
LFC Women will continue to be led by its board, with performance functions reporting directly into the football department which will ensure it has the right football knowledge and expertise to further develop and support LFC Women.
