StatsSlot, Salah, Gravenberch and more - Opta analysis of Liverpool's Premier League season so far
As we enter the run-in, take a look at Opta's analysis of Liverpool's 2024-25 Premier League season so far.
Neil Mellor and Opta's football data editor, Michael Reid, pored over the numbers behind the Reds' top-flight campaign after 29 matches in the latest instalment of LFCTV's Review Show.
We've picked out four takeaways from the episode...
Slot's sensational start
Arne Slot is looking to become just the fifth boss in Premier League history to win the title in their first season.
The Dutchman is attempting to repeat the feat achieved by Antonio Conte in 2016-17, Manuel Pellegrini in 2013-14, Carlo Ancelotti in 2009-10 and Jose Mourinho in 2004-05.
In fact, only Mourinho has returned more points than Slot after 29 games of a debut Premier League season.
Improvement in both boxes
The underlying numbers show similarities in how former manager Jürgen Klopp's and Slot's Liverpool teams attack.
However, the 2024-25 Reds have displayed their ruthlessness in front of goal to become the Premier League's highest scorers at this point.
There is an improvement in goals per game, shot conversion rate and the big chances conversion rate compared to last season.
At the back, meanwhile, Liverpool currently possess the second-best defensive record in the division.
On a per-game basis, there is a decrease in goals conceded, big chances faced and expected goals against (xGA), along with shots and shots on target faced.
Mo magic
Mohamed Salah leads the Premier League in far more than goals and assists.
In-depth statistics further highlight his brilliance as a goalscorer and creator, with the No.11 top for xG, big chances created and touches in the opposition box to name just a few categories.
Salah has been involved in 44 goals from his 2,573 minutes of league action, averaging out a competition all-time high of 58 minutes per goal involvement.
He needs four more goal involvements to set a new Premier League record and surpass Andrew Cole's 47 (achieved in 1993-94 from 40 appearances).
A flourishing Gravenberch
The ever-present Ryan Gravenberch at the base of the Reds' midfield has been one of many positives in this Premier League term.
Those terrific displays as a No.6 have not just been pleasing on the eye, with the 22-year-old among the best in the division in certain statistical departments.
No player has made more interceptions than his 50 and he ranks in the top five for passing accuracy (89.3 per cent).
