Programme notesNiamh Fahey: It was close when we last met Spurs - I expect the same again

The Reds host Tottenham Hotspur Women in a 2pm GMT showdown in the Barclays Women's Super League, looking to build on the positives they drew from their most recent outing against Arsenal Women.

In her captain's column in the matchday programme, Fahey writes: "Unfortunately we didn't get the result we wanted last weekend and it was a really tough game against a very strong opponent.

"Arsenal had the majority of the play but we were able to stick with them and certainly had our moments.

"We didn't have too many chances but on another day we could have scored. In games like that, you need one of those opportunities to go in and then maybe you can sow some seeds of doubt in their minds.

"That's probably the difference, especially in matches like that – you have to take those chances when they come along.

"They've got so much quality and we have to acknowledge that they were the better team on the day but it was important that we put in a performance, especially after the manner of the defeat at Manchester City the previous week. Everyone worked hard but I guess Arsenal's quality shone through in the end.

"A word too for Sofie Lundgaard, who made her first league start for the team. It's not easy to come into the starting XI in a game like that but I thought she did very well and worked so hard along with the rest of our midfield.

"Despite the defeat, we could take a lot of positives from the afternoon and we'll move on quickly now to the next game against Tottenham.

"Ourselves and Spurs are having very similar seasons and we have an identical league record in terms of wins, draws and defeats coming into Sunday's game.

"It was a close affair when we met earlier in the season and there was nothing really between the teams that day. The way things have gone since, I think it will be a similar situation again.

"We know that every game this year is going to be difficult and we have to be at our best in order to pick up any points, so we've been focused on having a good training week in order to be ready."
