VideoNew fan-created Virgil van Dijk banner unveiled at Anfield
Unveiled before Friday night’s win over Leicester City, the huge banner commemorates five years since the Dutchman arrived on Merseyside.
Devised and created by members of Spion Kop 1906, it depicts a victorious Van Dijk in June 2019.
Basking in the glory of Liverpool’s sixth European Cup triumph, the centre-half is pictured wandering the Estadio Metropolitano turf, clutching Old Big Ears.
The striking shot was selected by banner makers to acknowledge Van Dijk’s transformative effect over five years at the club.
Under the cover of darkness, in mid-December, youngsters from the Spion Kop 1906 group pieced together the fitting tribute.
An accompanying banner, bearing the words of Van Dijk’s signature chant, was created to complete the display planned for the match versus Leicester.
In interviews with LFCTV, the lads reflected on his Liverpool career to date – and decided to donate all fees spent on creating the banner, as well as the cost of filming, to two local charities.
