NewsLFC donates more than £590k to support apprenticeships and job creation in Liverpool City Region

The donation forms part of the club’s ongoing initiative to support training and employment through its Levy Initiative Scheme by pledging its unused Levy funds to support local businesses and charities.

The initiative expanded through a collaboration with the Liverpool City Region Employer Brokerage Team, to which LFC is the biggest contributor. Since its launch the team has received more than £7 million in funding, creating more than 1,200 apprenticeships.

At an event at Anfield earlier this month, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram expressed his thanks to the club and other big businesses for their significant Apprenticeship Levy contributions, emphasising the importance of utilising unspent funds locally to support small businesses and training programmes.

He said: “I am delighted that so many employers have stepped up to invest millions of pounds from unspent Levy funds into skills and training, which we always need more of.

“Funding new apprenticeships at smaller, local businesses means that this initiative is equipping the next generation of workers with the skills they need to succeed, while contributing to the local economy.

“I’ve talked a lot about collaboration, and this is another fantastic example of what we can achieve when we work together. I’m proud that our partnerships have helped create over a thousand opportunities for local people to build brighter futures.”

Matt Parish, chief executive of LFC Foundation, praised the collaboration, saying: “The event at Anfield showcased the tangible benefits of Levy transfers, creating jobs and training opportunities for local people. LFC is proud to lead by example, and we hope this inspires more businesses to get involved.”

The Apprenticeship Levy, introduced by the government, is paid by employers with a salary bill exceeding £3 million annually. While businesses can allocate these funds for in-house apprenticeships, up to 50 per cent can be transferred to other organisations, ensuring the funds remain in the community instead of being reclaimed by the government.
