NewsMohamed Salah analyses 'very important' win v Bologna
Mohamed Salah was pleased by what he considered a 'very important' victory as Liverpool overcame Bologna 2-0 in the Champions League.
The Reds No.11 was involved in both goals in Wednesday night’s Anfield tie, first setting up Alexis Mac Allister’s opener early on with an excellent cross.
The visitors had chances of their own in response to that breakthrough, including hitting the crossbar and post, but a stunning Salah curler 15 minutes from the end ensured Arne Slot’s men maintained a 100 per cent start to the league phase.
“It’s a very important win,” Salah, who became the first Liverpool player ever to score in five consecutive home European Cup matches, told UEFA.com.
“It’s a tough team; tactically, they are unbelievable. I’m glad we managed to win the game.
“It’s normal [that Bologna had good spells], they’re a team playing in the Champions League. It’s a tough team. They had a very good season last season.
“The manager spoke at half-time, and as players we also spoke together. We said to stick together and try to play our football, and I think that’s what we did in the second half.”
Liverpool are one of seven clubs to have won both of their opening two fixtures in the revamped league phase, which sees only the top eight of 36 teams guarantee a place in the last 16.
On building momentum in the competition, Salah added: “Hopefully. It’s too early so we don’t have to put pressure on ourselves, we just have to take it game by game and see what will happen.”
