Liverpool FC saddened by passing of Peter Wall
Liverpool FC is deeply saddened by the passing of former player Peter Wall, aged 80.
Wall was a professional for almost a decade-and-a-half in British football, spending nearly four years with the Reds and then eight seasons at Crystal Palace, where he was later handed the captaincy.
The full-back was signed from Wrexham by Bill Shankly in late 1966, having previously started his career at Shrewsbury Town.
His debut for the club came almost 18 months later, in a 3-2 Anfield victory over Burnley, and he made eight further starts in the remainder of the 1967-68 campaign.
Wall went on to make another 33 appearances for Liverpool across the next two seasons, before sealing a move to Palace in May 1970.
During a memorable spell with the Eagles he played more than 200 games, recovering from a broken leg suffered against the Reds early in his third season at Selhurst Park to also later skipper the Londoners.
Peter signed off his playing career in the USA with St. Louis Stars and California Surf, before managing the latter and Los Angeles Lazers.
The thoughts of everyone at LFC are with his family and friends at this very sad time.
RIP Peter Wall, 1944-2024
