Elliott became the 13th different Reds player to score this season when he netted the winner at Crystal Palace last Saturday.
Union SG are the fifth Belgian team Liverpool have faced in European competition, following Anderlecht, Standard Liege, Club Brugge and Genk.
At home this season in all competitions, Union SG have won 10 of their 13 games – including each of the last seven – and lost only once.
On this day in 1959, Bill Shankly took over as manager of the Reds, 13 days after his appointment was announced. He led the club to a first European trophy success in 1973 in the UEFA Cup.
