NewsLFC injury update: Cody Gakpo, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez
Arne Slot has provided a further injury update on Liverpool trio Cody Gakpo, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez.
Following Wednesday night's 2-2 Premier League draw at Aston Villa, the Reds were still to fully assess their squad ahead of this weekend's visit to face Manchester City.
Slot, however, has revealed that Gakpo – who has missed Liverpool's last two top-flight fixtures – will be a 'close call' for the trip to Etihad Stadium, which is set for a 4.30pm GMT kick-off on Sunday.
"Let's see," Slot said on the fitness of the No.18 on Thursday morning during a pre-match press conference. "I hope [he's available], I'm not 100 per cent sure. He hasn't trained with the team yet. Maybe he does a bit today. I don't know exactly. It will be a close call."
Bradley, meanwhile, limped out of the draw at Villa Park after coming on as a second-half substitute, while Gomez has now undergone surgery on a hamstring problem.
Asked about Bradley's status, Slot added: "No, he [Bradley] still has to come in, so we don't know yet. I would be completely surprised if he's involved in the Sunday game, or the Wednesday game against Newcastle. You can assume that's not going to happen.
"Joe Gomez had surgery for his hamstring injury, so he's out for a long time. He will be back maybe just before the end of the season.
"Then, of course, these two players are not injured but they come back from an injury – [Diogo] Jota and Trent [Alexander-Arnold], so that's also the reason they don't play 90 minutes five times in a row in 15 days. That would be a big risk, we could see this yesterday with Conor Bradley."
