NewsGallery: A memorable night on the Kop to tackle homelessness
LFC Foundation’s second ‘Kip on the Kop’ event took place on Saturday, with Reds uniting to help tackle homelessness across the Liverpool City Region.
It was a memorable evening for all who took part in the unique opportunity to spend a night on the Kop, to experience a night of solidarity and empathy, gaining just a small insight into the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness every night.
As the sun set over Anfield and the temperature dropped, LFC Foundation CEO Matt Parish addressed the crowd to highlight the issue of homelessness across the Liverpool City Region and the north west as a whole, before John Finnigan, CEO of Liverpool Homeless FC, gave an insight into the challenges faced by those his organisation support.
Also in attendance was Reds fan and comedian John Bishop, an ambassador for Liverpool Homeless FC, who spoke passionately about the work of both organisations and the need for change.
The crowd were treated to live music from Kieo throughout the night until the lights went out at 11.30pm and the reality set in. It was a humbling experience for everyone inside Anfield knowing this is the reality for so many every night as we head into the winter months.
Funds raised from the event will go towards supporting the work of LFC Foundation’s Global Works programme, which provides sport-based employability sessions and mentoring for young people who have experienced homelessness, and the fantastic work of Liverpool Homeless FC.
And it is not too late to support the event – donations can still be made here.
