InterviewFabinho: This is the biggest game in the Premier League - and we're ready for it

The Reds travel to face their arch-rivals on Monday night having drawn their opening two games of the top-flight campaign.

Their last two visits to United’s home have ended in convincing victories of 4-2 and 5-0 respectively, and Fabinho is eager to be part of the first team in Liverpool’s history to reel off three consecutive wins there.

“We know this is the biggest game here in the Premier League and it’s always good to play these games because the fans always want to win so it’s good for the morale as well,” the Brazil midfielder, who could make his 100th Premier League start on Monday, told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We need to win. We will go to Old Trafford with the mentality to win the game so we have some days to work before this game and we will work, and hopefully be in the best shape to play against Man United.

“This is a good opportunity for us as well to win three games in a row at Old Trafford. The last game was really good for us with the 5-0 win, for Mo [Salah] especially, so hopefully this last game will bring good memories for the team [to help us] play another good game at Old Trafford and win.”

On Liverpool’s performances so far this season…

I think we started the season in the best way possible with winning the Community Shield, but in the Premier League it wasn’t the start that we want. Of course we know that the start of the season is always important, it’s important to start winning games, but this wasn’t the case so we started with two draws. It’s still the beginning of the season but we know that we need three points as soon as possible so the game against Man United is a really good chance to get back to winning.

On whether the team feel that the season will be up and running once they pick up their first win of the campaign…

Yes, I think in the last game against Crystal Palace the team played a good game. It started really well, pressing and creating chances, but we didn’t score the goal. Then Crystal Palace scored and the reaction of the team was really good. Even with 10 men we kept pressing them [and] trying to score the second goal. We couldn’t score but I think the reaction and the attitude of the team was really good so I think we have to keep playing this way, of course, growing and learning. If we keep in that line we have a good chance to win the next game.

On Harvey Elliott’s display against Palace…

I think Harv played really well in the last game. Harvey is a little bit more offensive so it’s important to have a player like this with Harvey’s quality. We know that he will be between the lines, he can link up on that right side with Trent and Mo so it is really important for us that he is in good shape, that he is confident. He almost scored in the last game, he was important in the offensive actions but he is someone who works really hard so he will help in the defensive part as well. So we are happy for him and hopefully he will get better because we need a player like this.

On whether United’s start to the season makes them a more dangerous opponent…

It’s not good for a club like Man United to lose the first two games in the Premier League and I think with the way they lost, they will want to show a reaction in front of their fans. But we want to win this game as well so there will be two teams who want to win and need to win, so I’m sure it will be a really good game.
