News'Absolutely amazing' - Ian Rush humbled by new mural
Created by MurWalls, the striking artwork is situated opposite the stadium’s Main Stand and celebrates Liverpool’s all-time top goalscorer.
“It’s amazing. It’s the first time I’ve seen it,” Rush, who netted 346 times for the Reds, told Liverpoolfc.com when he visited the mural on Thursday.
“To be so close to Anfield is absolutely amazing, it’s a great honour for me to have my face on the wall. It’s most probably to scare the opposition!
“But for me, it’s great to have something like that. It’s a day I’ll never forget.”
Supporters will have the chance to check out the Rush mural themselves when Liverpool host Wolverhampton Wanderers on the last day of the Premier League season this Sunday.
Jürgen Klopp’s side – who also have the Champions League final against Real Madrid coming on May 28 – are a point behind Manchester City in the table.
“I’m not nervous anymore, to tell you the truth,” said Rush. “If you’d asked me would Liverpool win two trophies at the start of the season, I’d have taken that all day. And if Liverpool don’t win anything more, I think they’ve had a fantastic season.
“On Sunday, the game is at Anfield, the atmosphere is going to be electric, so I think the team will go out and enjoy themselves. You never know what happens. We’ve got two finals, with the one a week later in Paris, so I’m looking forward to it.
“We’re here to enjoy it now because we’ve won two trophies; hopefully it will be four, that would be even better. But we just go out on Sunday, relax and enjoy the game and entertain the fans, which they’ve been doing all season.”
