Liverpool travel to Wembley for an Emirates FA Cup semi-final meeting with Manchester City this afternoon.
The Reds are aiming to reach the club’s 15th final in English football’s oldest competition, having lifted the trophy on seven occasions previously – with the last coming in 2006.

This will be Liverpool’s 25th FA Cup semi-final appearance and their first under Jürgen Klopp. Only Manchester United (31), Arsenal (30), Chelsea and Everton (26 each) have appeared in more.
Liverpool have only been beaten by Manchester City in this competition in replays (five meetings). City have not beaten the Reds in the FA Cup since 1973. Since then, they have lost in 1988, 2001 and 2003.
The Reds have won all three of their FA Cup penalty shootouts, the last in the 2006 final against West Ham United. They have won 18 out of 25 in all competitions.
Klopp’s team is the first in the club’s history to reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and European Cup/Champions League in the same season.
James Milner will become Liverpool’s oldest ever Wembley player if he takes to the pitch today, at the age of 36 years and 103 days.
Liverpool’s last three Wembley visits have all been decided by a penalty shootout. They lost the Community Shield in both 2019 and 2020 to Manchester City and Arsenal respectively, before the Carabao Cup win over Chelsea in February.
This is the third time the two clubs have met at Wembley and City have never lost – winning both the 2016 League Cup final and 2019 Community Shield on penalties.
Liverpool have used 29 players in their four FA Cup games this season so far, with only Ibrahima Konate starting them all. Takumi Minamino and Kostas Tsimikas have also appeared in every game.
The Reds are looking to win a fifth FA Cup game in succession for the first time since 2012, when they won five in a row on the way to a final defeat by Chelsea.
Liverpool have not won in their last five meetings with Manchester City (all in the league), drawing three and losing twice.
