The convention was opened by LFC IA ambassador Ian Rush, who spoke at length about his journey to becoming LFC’s most prolific league goal-scorer and discussing the coaching styles of the managers he played for during his illustrious career.

Later in the day, coaches also had technical presentations and workshops from LFC coaching staff before ending the day with a tour of Anfield and an evening event with Club Ambassador and one of LFC’s most iconic players, John Barnes, reflecting on his career and what LFC means to him.

On Thursday, focus shifted to the Academy where the LFC IA technical staff delivered some on-pitch CPD for the delegates, demonstrating some of the key details and techniques used to bring our unique coaching curriculum to life. A tour of the AXA Training Centre followed, before sitting down for a nutrition and welfare insight session from Tom Maynard and Ted Smith respectively, learning how LFC take a holistic approach to player care.

The packed schedule then lead into guest speaker sessions from LFC’s Head of ED&I, Rishi Jain, who provided a detailed look at the clubs RedTogether strategy, before academy graduate and current under-18 coach Jay Spearing provided an insight into his career and his responsibilities as a role model for the current academy players

The final classroom presentation of the day saw LFC's Head of Safeguarding, Nicola Fryer, deliver an interactive session to reinforce the key aspects of LFC’s approach to protecting the wellbeing of our players, staff and vulnerable adults. To end the day, coaches observed some Academy training sessions in the evening.

Friday saw the delegates deliver LFC coaching sessions on the pitches at the Academy, a career goal for many who attended, ensuring they captured and demonstrated some of the key principles they had covered during their time in Liverpool. To celebrate the completion of all on-pitch delivery and formal content, each participant was presented with a Certificate of Attendance.

The week was closed out by the delegates attending both the Everton v LFC Women’s game at Goodison Park and the LFC Legends v Celtic game at Anfield, before observing some LFC Academy fixtures on Sunday morning.

The annual event is an opportunity to collaborate with coaches delivering The Liverpool Way on pitches all over the world and has once again delivered enormous value to all attendees and LFC staff who participated.
