Taking place on Tuesday 6th February, 180 school students from across Liverpool will attend a fun-filled day of activities exploring technology and online safety, whilst experiencing the famous football grounds and meeting the ever-popular mascot, Mighty Red.

This year’s Safer Internet Day theme is ‘Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online’. Students will be able to take part in workshops, activities and discussions around how we can all collectively work towards a safer internet.

Will Gardner OBE, co-Director of the UK Safer Internet Centre said: “It is brilliant to see how Liverpool FC gets involved with Safer Internet Day every year. The Day provides the best opportunity in the year to promote safe and responsible use of technology. It works to raise awareness and leads to key conversations between children and their parents and carers, as well as at school,”.

“The success of the day lies in the huge collaboration that takes place with thousands of organisations right across the country getting involved to promote key messages and provide information, resources and tools. Liverpool FC plays an important role here and helps these messages reach as far as possible.”

"We have worked with UK Safer Internet Centre for many years now and we are pleased to be able to play a part in highlighting potential risks online and ensuring that children have the skills and knowledge to be able to explore the internet and learn in a safe way.”

Safer Internet Day 2024 will take place on the 6th of February 2024, with celebrations taking place across the UK around the theme.

Safer Internet Day is the UK’s biggest celebration of online safety. Each year the UK Safer Internet Centre covers an online issue or theme that speaks to the things young people are seeing and experiencing online. Created in consultation with young people across the UK, this year Safer Internet Day will be focusing on change and influence online. This includes covering:

• Young people’s perspective on new and emerging technology
• Using the internet to make change for the better
• The changes young people want to see online
• The things that can influence and change the way young people think, feel and act online and offline

Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre (partnership between Childnet, SWGfL and the Internet Watch Foundation), the celebration sees thousands of organisations get involved to promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.
