Lucie Finlay, who is part of our LFC Foundation YDP Girls Academy U14’s, is an impressive young talent.

Lucie showed a keen interest for football from an early age. She began playing football when she was just four years old and has never looked back. Lucie, age 12, has been involved with a wide range of teams and academies, and her love for the game is infectious. Lucie is part of the Emerging Talent Centre Programme, which is the LFC Foundation’s pathway to help young girls who aspire to become professional women’s footballers.

Since her trial in 2020 and gaining a place within the Academy structure, Lucie has been somewhere that she loves, and it shows. During her time at Liverpool, she has always played up an age group and she has really enjoyed the challenge. To see her development throughout her time within the club has been fantastic.

Lucie was part of the LFC Foundation Emerging Talent Centre U13s squad at the start of this season as a first year (U12). Her development within the squad and the ETC resulted in her getting a Talent ID opportunity with the YDP U14s squad in February. She impressed in her time with the U14s, and this has resulted in her being offered a place in the side for next season as she is too young to join this season!

She is spending the rest of the season with the U14's to train up and develop in preparation for next season. Lucie has gone from strength to strength within the environment training with players a year above and was a real stand out in every session. Her determination to develop and keep striving was evident and ultimately resulted in her call up to the U14s squad. She is an incredibly gifted technical player, and we are delighted for Lucie that she is in an environment where she is thriving and is happy.

Lucie states: “I have really enjoyed my time with Liverpool. I really liked last year winning the league and being able to be ball-girl and meeting the first team. I will work hard and hope to make it to the first team in the future.”

Jamie Henderson, ETC Player Development Lead, talks about Lucies journey: “Since the start of our Emerging Talent Centre in September, Lucie has shown all the skills and attributes needed to progress into Academy football. Lucie would set the example in every training session and her standards were sky high. She is an absolute pleasure to coach, and I’ve really enjoyed watching her develop into a fantastic young footballer”.

Aside from football, Lucie has always continued to take part in other sports, including swimming, running and the gym, all of which helps with fitness and conditioning. At school she takes part in as much sport as she can. During her first year in secondary school Lucie was awarded the “Sports Personality of the Year Award” by her schools PE department’s annual awards.

We are so proud of Lucie's commitment and progress and can’t wait to see how she develops in her future.
