LFC FoundationLiverpool FC to mark 36th anniversary of Hillsborough
Liverpool FC’s tributes to the 97 supporters who lost their lives in the Hillsborough tragedy, to mark the 36th anniversary, will begin this weekend.
At the Women’s FA Cup fixture against Chelsea on Saturday (April 12) at Kingsmeadow, a period of silence will be observed and the players will wear black armbands as a mark of respect.
Tributes will continue at the Reds’ Premier League meeting with West Ham United on Sunday (April 13) at Anfield, where a mosaic will also be displayed on the Kop prior to kick-off to remember the 97 fans who died as a result of the events that occurred at the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989.
There will be a commemorative edition of the matchday programme and tributes will also be displayed on LED boards surrounding the pitch.
Academy players will take part in a range of events to mark the anniversary, including educational sessions and the annual Hillsborough Memorial Football Tournament held in Kirkby.
On Tuesday April 15, players and staff across the club will fall silent at 3.06pm to observe a minute of silence in memory of the men, women and children who lost their lives.
April 15 is a significant and poignant date in the club’s history and one which brings us together in remembrance and thought to remember the 97 who lost their lives, and to share love and support for their families, the survivors and all those impacted by the Hillsborough tragedy.
