LFC Foundation's Premier League Kicks programme visited Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service’s (MFRS) new state of the art Training and Development Academy in Aintree, Liverpool to kick off a 12-month educational programme.

The three-day educational course, run through the half term holidays, will see an initiative aimed at using the power of football to bring together vulnerable at-risk young people from across the city.

The partnership between the LFC Foundation and MFRS encourages positive social connections while highlighting the dangers surrounding anti-social behaviour and the misuse of fireworks during the Halloween and Bonfire period.

The partnership between the LFC Foundation and MFRS is into its eighth year, and the collaborative working between the two enables a passion for football to break down barriers between the blue light emergency services and some of the most at risk children within local communities.

In doing so, younger people in higher need areas are empowered through their love of football to access vital educational support.

Mark Sopp, MFRS Group Manager for Prevention and Community Safety said:

“Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are proud to partner with the LFC Foundation Premier League Kicks Programme to give the children in our communities the best chance in life.”

In a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour around the Halloween and Bonfire period, initiatives such as the collaboration with blue light emergency services is to get young people off the streets and into programmes and activities that will prevent any ASB.

Alongside the LFC Foundation coaches was Community Ambassador and ex-Premier League footballer Chris Kirkland, who summed up the day:

“Seeing the way the Fire Service operates, how they train, it’s just so inspirational. All the staff here do amazing work to try and keep our communities safe.

“Today has been a fantastic opportunity to educate the kids about the dangers of fireworks, Bonfire night, and how actions can have devastating consequences.

“To be able to educate the children on the dangers and being dragged into things unnecessarily sometimes, provide that leadership and guidance to help them, partnerships like this within our communities are absolutely vital.”
