LFC FoundationLocal school children attend RoadPeace event at Anfield Stadium to learn about staying safe as a pedestrian and future driver
Over 70 students from 7 schools across Liverpool City Region joined us at Anfield Stadium on Friday, November 15th to develop their knowledge around road safety.
Students had the chance to use VR goggles to understand what to do if you have found yourself in a road traffic accident. The activity was part of a day-long road safety event organised by LFC Foundation, RoadPeace, Merseyside Road Safety Partnership and Wirral Council at Anfield Stadium.
The day was run as part of our Premier League Inspires programme, which is a personal development programme, funded by the Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) through the Premier League Charitable Fund.
The programme uses the power of football to inspire young people aged 11-to-18 to develop the personal skills and positive attitudes to succeed in life.
RoadPeace is the national charity for road crash victims in the UK. They provide information and support services to people bereaved or seriously injured in road crashes and engage in evidence-based policy and campaigning work to fight for justice for victims and reduce road danger. Set up in 1992 by Brigitte Chaudry MBE whose son was killed in a road traffic accident, they are a membership organisation whose work is informed by the needs and experiences of road crash victims.
The event was a lead up to The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR) which is commemorated on the third Sunday of November each year - to remember the many millions killed and injured on the world's roads, together with their families, friends and the many others who are also affected.

It is also an opportunity for the LFC Foundation and young people to thank the emergency services, medical professionals and others who deal daily with the traumatic aftermaths of road injury and death. A day of remembrance was initiated by RoadPeace in 1993 and adopted by the UN as a global day in 2005.
RoadPeace Chair, Petra Kendall-Raynor, said "It has been an incredible day and we're really grateful to the LFC Foundation for putting on the event at Anfield, the work of the Merseyside Road Safety and everyone who helped to make it happen. We hope the important messages young people heard today will increase their awareness of road danger and encourage them to be safer drives when they pass their driving tests."
A teacher from a local school said, “It’s been a brilliant day the kids have taken so much away from it.”
“Personally, I would like to say thanks for all the opportunities you and the LFC Foundation are giving our pupils. Most of these pupils don’t leave their house when they are home and since we’ve been involved with yourselves the confidence in the pupils has grown massively, so a massive thank you!"
Ryan Hardy, LFC Foundation’s Premier League Inspires Senior Coordinator said, “It has been fantastic to host this event and educate young people on the critical importance of road safety,”.
“This is something we’ve been committed to for many years but hosting it at the stadium marks a significant step. It’s a move away from football, focusing instead on a broader educational piece that addresses the impact road safety has on our communities and young lives. We’re proud to use this platform to drive meaningful change and awareness.”
