MatchWSL: Eight stats to know ahead of Liverpool v Manchester City at Anfield

Liverpool have won four of their eight home games against City in the WSL (drawn one, lost three) but did lose this fixture 4-1 last term.

The Reds have gone unbeaten across their opening three games of a WSL campaign (one win, two draws) for the first time since the 2017 Spring Series (two wins, one draw), with that season and 2014 the only campaigns in which they have avoided defeat in each of their first four matches.

Beard's team have opened the scoring inside the opening 10 minutes in three of their last four WSL games, while they have also scored in stoppage time in three of their last six league matches.

No player has recorded more carries of at least five metres ending with a shot in the WSL this season than Liverpool's Olivia Smith (five), with the Canadian recording more carries overall than any other forward in the division this term (27).

This will be Liverpool's fourth WSL match at Anfield, with the Reds losing their previous three without scoring a single goal, all against Everton: 0-1 in November 2019, 0-3 in September 2022 and 0-1 in October 2023.

City have won 17 of their last 19 WSL fixtures (one draw, one loss).

Gareth Taylor's side are aiming to go unbeaten in their opening four games in back-to-back WSL seasons for the first time since doing so in five straight campaigns between 2016 and 2019-20.

City average 4.5 passes per open play sequence and 13.6 seconds per such sequence in the WSL this season, both competition highs so far in 2024-25.
