Round-upWorld Cup: Van Dijk, Henderson and Alexander-Arnold into last 16
Three Liverpool players advanced to the last 16 of the World Cup on Tuesday.
Virgil van Dijk captained the Netherlands to a 2-0 victory over hosts Qatar in their final Group A game, a win that secured top spot in their section.
And later in the day, Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold helped Group B winners England beat Wales 3-0.
Reds captain Henderson started and finished the match in Al Rayyan, with Alexander-Arnold coming off the bench early in the second half.
The Netherlands will now face the USA – runners-up in Group B after they overcame Iran 1-0 – in a knockout tie on Saturday, while England will meet Group A’s second-placed side Senegal on Sunday after Aliou Cisse’s team defeated Ecuador 2-1.

Ibrahima Konate and France, who are already assured of their place in the first knockout round, conclude their Group D fixtures against Tunisia on Wednesday.
