NewsWorld Cup: Hendo and Trent bow out as Konate's France progress
Liverpool captain Henderson began the clash in Qatar, where Aurelien Tchouameni’s blast from distance put France in front during the first half.
Harry Kane converted an equalising penalty nine minutes after the interval, but Olivier Giroud forced in a header with 78 on the clock to restore the holders’ lead.
Kane was off target with a second England spot-kick and France held on to the result, meaning Konate’s nation advance but Henderson, Alexander-Arnold and the Three Lions are eliminated.
France next face a semi-final meeting with Morocco, who earlier in the day defeated Portugal 1-0 – courtesy of a 42nd-minute goal from Youssef En Nesyri – to book their place in the last four.
That game will be played at Al Bayt Stadium on Wednesday, kick-off 7pm GMT.
