NewsWhy Arne Slot knows what to expect from 'really special' Anfield

The Dutchman, an Eredivisie and KNVB Cup winner during his time with former club Feyenoord, is now at the helm of the Reds after replacing Jürgen Klopp this summer.

Slot cannot wait to lead his new team out at his new home stadium, which he has actually visited once before as a guest of former assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders.

Having also stopped in at Melwood during that previous trip to Merseyside, Slot watched on when Klopp’s men beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Anfield in a Premier League clash in February 2017.

“I visited the club once because I knew Pepijn, so I know how it feels when you are in the stadium,” he told Liverpoolfc.com during his first official interview as head coach.

“But to be there as the manager will probably be a bit more different than being there as a fan. It’s going to be really special I suppose.

“I’m used to Feyenoord, which is a fanbase that is really enthusiastic as well and is known for the atmosphere.

“I’m hoping and expecting that this goes one level up, not only in terms of the quality of the players but also in the way the fans will back the team. Like I said, I’m looking forward to it.”
