Interview'We're excited to go again' - Cody Gakpo on pre-season, 2023-24 aims and new signings
The Netherlands forward was one of 14 members of Jürgen Klopp’s squad to start their preparations for 2023-24 at the AXA Training Centre – a group that included new signings Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
And Gakpo is eager to build on an encouraging opening six months of an Anfield career that saw him score seven goals and provide three assists in 26 appearances following his January transfer from PSV Eindhoven.
“Very excited [to be back]. I think first of all it’s nice to see everybody after a short break. I think everybody is excited to go again and we want to show everybody what we’ve got,” the No.18 told Liverpoolfc.com.
“I think everybody has the same mindset at the moment: we really want to achieve something this year again. That’s the target and we will train hard for that.
“We ended, I think, the campaign pretty good with a nice run of winning games, and I hope we start there again and do that for the whole season: win prizes together and show everybody how good we are.
“For me personally, [my aims are] just working hard, keep improving and helping the team as much as I can: to really have an impact by scoring goals, giving assists, helping the team, working hard with the result of winning games.
“In the end we win as a team and hopefully we are going to win some prizes again.”
Gakpo also stated how much he is looking forward to teaming up with Mac Allister and Szoboszlai.
He added: “Very pleased [they are here]. I think everybody knows that they are very good players and I’m really looking forward to playing with them together.”
