Press conference'We wouldn't be where we are without Caoimhin Kelleher'
The Republic of Ireland international is in line to make his 24th appearance of the season against Sheffield United at Anfield on Thursday night – moving level with teammate Alisson’s total for 2023-24.
Kelleher’s recent run in the XI represents the longest spell as a starter of his senior career since joining the Reds back in the summer of 2015.
Asked about the importance of the No.62’s contribution for the team, at his press conference ahead of the clash with the Blades, the manager said: “I think I was never shy of praising Caoimh!
“For example, take Caoimh. Ali out for a long spell would have been a bit of a problem. Not because of Caoimh, but he never had to play that many games so you never know how that would look then.
“So, [it was] perfect.”
Klopp continued: “How these boys dealt with the situation and with the new opportunities is just exceptional.
“So many players out for a really long time and we are still where we are, that’s pretty special. And you cannot expect that. You hope for these kind of things – you cannot expect it.
“And I’m absolutely over the moon, happy for the boys that they can prove their point. I was never in doubt about them but they still have to prove it themselves.
“That’s wonderful, absolutely, outstanding season. Without Caoimh Kelleher, [there is] no chance to be in the position we are.”
