FeatureWe Love You Liverpool: Meet Official LFC Supporters Club... Delaware
The Reds’ fanbase is famous for its passion and loyalty, cheering on both Jürgen Klopp and Matt Beard’s squads whether on Merseyside or watching from afar.
Our We Love You Liverpool feature aims to bring supporters closer together to learn more about each other wherever they are based around the globe.
Whether in the UK and Republic of Ireland, on Merseyside itself, in North or South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia or elsewhere, fans provide the very foundations that the club is built on.
Here, we meet OLSC Delaware…
Firstly, can you introduce yourself – tell us a little a bit about who you are and where you are from...
We are OLSC Delaware based in Wilmington. We meet every matchday at Catherine Rooney’s in Trolley Sq. We are from a small state, but we are mighty and full of spirit. As a club, we support our local community by donating time and food to the foodbank of Delaware and the B+ Foundation. We also support those in our club and community when life takes a turn, because we truly believe in You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Tell us about OLSC Delaware…
We have more than 150 core members with a membership list in excess of 300. We joined the official network in 2018 and this helped us grow from 50 or 60 members to where we are now.
How special is it to have a feel of ‘Liverpool’ despite being in Delaware?
We have quite a few Scousers in the club, but we love having the support of Liverpool here in Delaware. I think what makes OLSC Delaware so great are the people spearheading it and those showing up every matchday to support the Reds. They are an amazing bunch of people, who are beyond welcoming. New members are welcomed to Rooney’s with open arms and a pint of Guinness.
What is so unique about being a Liverpool supporter for your members?
We’ve developed a really close community here in Wilmington. We know it’s a cliché, but sometimes it really feels like it means more. Our history is unique – it draws people in who want to be able to connect at multiple levels; the team, the city and the supporters.
Has the OLSC ever visited Anfield? If so, what was the experience like?
A bunch of us have been. A favourite memory, one of our members Chris Phillips was at the December 2019 Watford game – 12.30pm kick-off, maybe not the best performance ever – but he came back and described it as the best experience ever. It’s much easier to go to a big game and celebrate that, this felt like how we should all feel when we have the chance to go to Anfield whatever the game.
If anyone is interested in joining your OLSC, how would they go about doing so?
You can visit our website (olscdelaware.org) and find out more about us. You can either visit Catherine Rooney’s on a matchday, or visit the website to see how to pay the yearly membership fee – members will receive a T-shirt when they join.
Finally, is there anything else you'd like to mention?
Some members of our club (and spouses) have passed away in the last few years since we became official. The response from our group has been so wonderful, whether it has been raising funds or showing support for those left behind, we have been our better selves in these difficult moments and it makes it a unique environment to be a part of.
