FeatureWe Love You Liverpool: Meet Official LFC Supporters Club... Barcelona
The Reds' fanbase is famous for its passion and loyalty, cheering on both Jürgen Klopp and Matt Beard's squads whether on Merseyside or watching from afar.
Our We Love You Liverpool feature aims to bring supporters closer together to learn more about each other wherever they are based around the globe.
Whether in the UK and Republic of Ireland, on Merseyside itself, in North or South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia or elsewhere, fans provide the very foundations that the club is built on.
Here, we meet OLSC Barcelona…
Tell us about the OLSC…
In 2008 a group of enthusiastic Reds, headed by Sergi and Cesc, secured the official status for our supporters club. At that time Rafa Benitez was manager.
We currently have 50 members and we meet at the James Joyce, an Irish bar in the heart of Barcelona, for matches and gatherings.
How special is it to have the supporters club where you are?
We have great camaraderie and friendship among all our members. We are a group of friends and it is our strong point that we are close. Apart from having some sort of 'trobada' (get together) with lunch or dinner in the pub without a match in between, we are left to go out drinking, go to football games in Barcelona and play football in amateur tournaments. The Liverpool Way is the best part of being a supporter.
What is so special about supporting Liverpool for your members?
Without a doubt it is creating a great atmosphere – like a small Anfield – in our pub. Besides, we do not usually fail when LFC visits Spain in Seville, Madrid, Villarreal and, of course, Barcelona. During a trip to Anfield for the Fulham game in November 2019, we enjoyed the company of Antonio Nunez, a former Liverpool player in 2005.
It was quite an experience that he shared his memories and stories about his stay in LFC and especially the magical final of Istanbul with the comeback against AC Milan. For the rest of that final, he told us that Rafa Benitez gave the team so much calmness, correcting some positions and failures. There was no 'special' talk as attributed by the urban legend.
Furthermore, we met Phil Thompson during the 2022 Champions League semi-finals in Villarreal, who was very friendly with us.
What is your favourite memory together as an OLSC?
Our greatest memories are linked to the Champions League and European Cups: finals in Istanbul and Madrid, and of course, the semi-final second leg against Barcelona at Anfield. We usually travel to Anfield between four and six times per season depending on various factors, where we also come away with great memories.
Lastly, if anyone else is interested in joining your OLSC, how would they go about doing so?
Our email is barcelonareds@gmail.com, or feel free to join us at the James Joyce pub. We want to take this opportunity to greet all our members of BCN Reds, as well as all our brothers in Madrid with whom we have a deep relationship of friendship and mutual admiration. We also have nice contact with Bilbao Basque Reds and Gijon Reds OLSCs too.
