Interview'We came back well but we know we need to do better'
The Australia international was making her second start for the club in the Barclays Women’s Super League and ensured the Reds secured a point with a brilliant second-half save.
Having gone 1-0 down shortly after the half-time interval, Matt Beard’s side responded when Sophie Roman Haug headed in an equaliser with her third goal of the season.
The Reds will now end 2023 with two away trips, first facing Everton in a Continental League Cup tie at Walton Hall Park on Wednesday (7pm GMT), followed by Sunday’s WSL encounter with Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village (12.15pm GMT).
Read on as Micah reflects on Sunday’s game with Liverpoolfc.com and also talks about the competition for places in the squad…
On the frustrations of Sunday’s game against Bristol City…
I think we were lucky to get away with a point, to be fair. It was a disappointing game from us and a disappointing last home game of the year, so our focus now turns to our final two games of 2023 against Everton in the Continental Cup and then Manchester United, so we just need to park this game now and be better.
On the fighting spirit of the team to claim a point…
We do take credit for the way we came back and got a point. Bristol City came out guns blazing and put a lot of pressure on us and I think we need to deal with that better, but we did respond well and get the goal back. Their ’keeper made a great save to deny Missy Bo Kearns right at the end, but we were disappointed with the lack of chances we created on the day and we need to do better to give ourselves a better chance of winning the game.
On her vital save in the second half and getting an extended run in the team…
It was more of a reflex save, to be honest, so I was happy and it kept us with a point. Lawsy [Rachael Laws] is a great goalkeeper and it’s great competition, but that’s what you want at your club and for me it’s only going to make me better. I just love playing and I like to compete.
On her gratitude for the support from the fans…
The Liverpool fan base is massive and a lot of respect to the fans that came out in the cold to support us against Bristol City. We appreciate every single one of them that turn up and the ones that can’t we know are watching online so we appreciate every single one of them.
