Interview'We are in a really good place and we can't wait for Sunday'
The Wales international played a key role in helping the Reds achieve a top-four finish in the Barclays Women’s Super League in 2023-24 and is hoping the team can continue their progression in the coming season.
Matt Beard’s side experienced their new home stadium for the first time during last weekend’s goalless draw with neighbours Everton in their final pre-season outing.
They return to St Helens on Sunday as the real business begins, with the season opener against Leicester kicking off at 2pm BST.
Ahead of the clash with the Foxes, midfielder Holland spoke to Liverpoolfc.com about the St Helens experience, matchday one, and her ambitions for 2024-25…
On the Everton game…
I think it’s pre-season and it’s all about working on things that we’ve been working on throughout pre-season training. I think we’re really happy. We saw some pictures that we were really pleased with today.
On the first experience playing at St Helens Stadium…
It’s really special. It’s an incredible stadium and it’s a really good size for us as well. It was amazing to see the fans. I think we’ve missed them and the fact it’s red does help!
On getting a taste of the stadium before Sunday’s WSL start…
I think it was a really good exercise for us. We really needed to make sure we got settled here and it means that next week there’s nothing new. We were able to smooth out anything that we needed to smooth out. It’s incredible. Even the changing room and everything is really good. I think the club have done a fantastic job.
On her own dynamic display against Everton…
It’s something that I pride myself on. I really enjoyed it and I thought it was a really good game. Both teams played some good football and I think we were unlucky not to get the win in the end. We created some good chances in the second half and on another day some of those go in. Hopefully they do next weekend.
On Mia Enderby’s performance…
She was fantastic. They were fouling her every time she got the ball. She’s so good on the ball, I think she can go both ways. She’s fantastic. I think all the subs made a massive difference. Sofie Lundgaard came in and did a fantastic job in the holding role and Jas [Matthews] was looking as calm as ever at left-side centre-half. I think all the subs made an impact and we were really good in the end.
On the season opener against Leicester…
Really excited. I think the pre-season has been long but we’re really excited for the season to start now. It’s definitely getting to that time where we’re ready and I think the team is in a really good place. I think we look really fit and we’ve got a really good understanding of each other.
