Reaction'We all fed off Jordan Henderson's energy against Man Utd'
The captain was one of many outstanding performers at Anfield on Tuesday evening as goals from Mohamed Salah (two), Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane gave the Reds victory over their rivals in the Premier League.
Although Diaz gave Jürgen Klopp’s men the lead after five minutes, Robertson felt the dominant display started from the very first whistle, led by Henderson.
The Scot told Liverpoolfc.com post-match: “From minute one, I think we were on top, high energy.
“Off the ball, I thought we were special, I thought we were incredible. Hendo set the tone.
“Hendo set the tone [in the] first five, 10 minutes with his pressing and with his high energy, and I think everyone just kind of followed suit. That’s what a captain does, and Hendo’s done it many a time for us and he did it again. I think we all just fed off his energy.
“Obviously we just went for it. Our counter-press was on such a high level and put them under pressure, and the goals weren’t too bad as well.”
Robertson also singled out the performance of Thiago Alcantara, who wowed supporters in his 80-minute appearance before being showered with applause when substituted off.
“The standing ovation he got, I think he deserved,” Robertson said of the No.6. “But, to be honest, if any one of us came off, I think they deserved that standing ovation. As a whole team, I thought we were outstanding.
“I thought the midfield three worked so hard. Thiago’s a special player and the performances he’s putting in just now are exceptional and he needs to keep that going. He played at a really high standard but I thought Fab and Hendo were outstanding as well and did the dirty work, won the ball back – and so did Thiago.
“Playing on my side, it felt as if he was everywhere and we just kind of fed off each other, winning balls back. All three of us down the left worked really hard. A fantastic team performance but the standing ovation he got, he fully deserved.”
The victory over United saw Liverpool go top of the Premier League for at least 24 hours, with Manchester City in action on Wednesday night when they face Brighton & Hove Albion.
It was another enjoyable day’s work for Klopp’s side as the hunt for three more honours this season continues.
Robertson finished: “At this period of time, if you can’t enjoy what we’re going for and what we’re trying, then I think we’re in the wrong job.
“Obviously when you’re 3-0 up, 4-0 up, we were happy with the performance. But when we’re smiling and things like that, trust me, we’re very determined and still angry inside – that’s what we have to be for 95 minutes.
“A lot of happy faces coming off the pitch – and rightly so because everyone was different class, nobody was below a 10 out of 10, for me. I thought we were all really good – really good pressing, really good passing, composure, the goals were outstanding.
“It’s only three points, we move on and now we’ve got another massive game at the weekend.”
