ReactionWataru Endo: Thank you – we feel like we played with an extra player
The Reds were second-best during the first half of the Premier League clash and trailed at the break to Ferdi Kadioglu’s emphatic finish.
But an uplift in intensity on the pitch, coupled with forceful backing from the stands, saw Arne Slot’s men turn the game around in the second period.
Cody Gakpo’s cross curled into the net to equalise and, just moments later, Mohamed Salah whipped a trademark effort beyond Bart Verbruggen.
“The atmosphere in Anfield was crazy,” Endo, who came on from the bench for the final quarter-hour, told Liverpoolfc.com afterwards.
“I remember my goal against Fulham [in last December’s 4-3 win] and after that we scored again. Today was kind of a similar atmosphere in Anfield.
“They created an amazing atmosphere and I think we feel like we played plus one. Thank you for always supporting us.”
The No.3 added of a result that sent Liverpool two points clear at the top: “It was a tough game. First half, Brighton were playing very well. Second half, we kept the intensity high.
“I think that’s why we could score two. After we scored, I came in and my job was very clear. I just did my job and we’re glad to win this game.”
Slot was able to call upon the depth of his squad, with Joe Gomez delivering an outstanding 45 minutes after replacing the injured Ibrahima Konate.
Luis Diaz and Curtis Jones were also catalysts as substitutes, the pair combining neatly in the build-up to Salah’s deciding effort.
“We know that our team needs everyone to contribute because we need to play a lot of games,” said Endo.
“I think everyone is trying to prepare well for every game, and if they have the chance they just play their best. Now we are keeping winning and everyone is doing their job, so we are good.
“Joey played very well, also all the players who were subbed in. I think everyone was ready for doing their job, that’s the important thing.
“For me, even if I start or not I just get ready for the chances and try to do my best.”
The Reds’ attentions are now turned to Tuesday night’s Champions League home meeting with Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.
A third successive Anfield fixture – versus Aston Villa on Saturday – follows, ahead of the pause for the November international window.
Asked if the players are glancing at the Premier League table at this point, Endo said: “No, not really. The thing we need is just to focus on every game and try to win it. I don’t see the table much, just try to win every game.”
