ReactionVirgil van Dijk: We did very well and we can look forward for December
The Reds captain set his side on their way to victory at Bramall Lane on Wednesday night with a crisp, first-time finish from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner on 37 minutes.
Dominik Szoboszlai then added a clinching second in stoppage time by crashing in a shot having been picked out by substitute Darwin Nunez.
The result moved Jürgen Klopp’s team back to within two points of leaders Arsenal and Van Dijk spoke of his anticipation for the chance to keep up positive momentum.

On his first goal of the season and it being really well struck…
Yeah, obviously very important. Big three points, a clean sheet and now we prepare for another big game on Saturday away at Palace.
On Liverpool digging deep and it being an important result to keep momentum going…
Obviously the change of manager for them gives their team and the fans a little boost but, to be honest, I think we did very well. Obviously we were very good in possession. You know that when you lose the ball in certain areas you can get counters around you, but we did well. I don’t think it was too hostile today but obviously you still have to win the game and I think it’s a big step today. I’m pleased for Caoimh – clean sheet, a world-class goalkeeper in my eyes, and obviously it’s good to see that as well.
On the team’s encouraging form and progress this season…
Listen, we are in December and there are so many games to come. Unfortunately, the other day we lost Joel Matip and we are all devastated by that. That’s a sign as well; we have so many injuries going around in world football, it’s something we have to look at as well.
For us now, it’s a good start to December and we have plenty of big games to come and we should all look forward to it. I’m definitely looking forward to each and every one of them. We need the whole squad. To see what we have at the moment, and hopefully players coming back will definitely help in contributing hopefully to success.
