NewsVirgil van Dijk named in PFA Team of the Year for 2023-24
The centre-back takes a place in the annual XI, which is voted for by the country’s professional players, for the fourth time since joining the Reds in January 2018.
Van Dijk was also selected by his peers in 2019, 2020 and 2022.
“Feeling blessed and grateful to be here for the fourth time,” he posted on social media. “Thank you to all my fellow professionals.”
Last season, the Netherlands skipper made 36 league appearances, scoring two goals, as Liverpool finished third in the Premier League and secured a return to Champions League football.
In his first year wearing the armband for the club, Van Dijk also delivered the winning goal in extra-time when the Reds defeated Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley to lift the Carabao Cup in February.
His spot in the latest Team of the Year was announced at the 2024 PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester this evening.
