NewsVirgil van Dijk: I want to continue improving
Virgil van Dijk is targeting further improvement after a 2021-22 season ‘full of happy moments’.
The centre-back returned to the pitch having missed the majority of the previous campaign due to a serious knee injury, playing 51 games at club level as Liverpool lifted the Emirates FA Cup and Carabao Cup and finished runners-up in the Premier League and Champions League.
Following the Netherlands’ 4-1 win at Belgium on Friday night, which Van Dijk completed, he posted a message to social media on the emotions of the season.
“My season is done. A season that had tough moments, but most of all full of happy moments,” wrote Van Dijk.
“Happy that I was able to contribute again, after being out for such a long time. I’m blessed and privileged and I really don’t take any of that for granted, I will keep continuing to improve and to get better but now is time to rest and completely switch off.
“Thanks to my teammates, the staff and fans at LFC and Oranje, and I’ll see you next season.”
