ReactionVirgil van Dijk on Burnley win: 'It was an important victory for us'

Jürgen Klopp's side moved to the top of the table thanks to a 2-0 win at Turf Moor following goals from Darwin Nunez and the returning Diogo Jota.

Nunez opened the scoring in just the sixth minute with a well-struck low drive from outside the area, while Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott both saw goals ruled out in either half, before Jota stepped off the bench to seal the result in the final minute of normal time.

On the victory...

Obviously [it's] very important. It's very important to get three points here. It's been a very intense nine [or] 10 days, with four difficult games and different challenges. I think we did very well. Obviously it was a bit of chaos after [Harvey Elliott's] goal was disallowed. But overall I'm pleased with the performance, I think we played well and we move on.

On digging in to get another positive result...

I don't think it was a lot of luck, to be absolutely honest. It's never easy, they play at home and they won their last game, so they have a bit of confidence as well and we have to be very good and ready to suffer. I think we were good with the changes we made. Like I said, it was the fourth game in nine [or] 10 days, so I'm very pleased with the result.

On Jarell Quansah's performance...

Yeah, definitely. He's a fantastic talent. He's up and coming and from the moment he had his chance in his debut away at Newcastle he's been improving. It's nice to see. I really like that. If I can help him I am very pleased.

On Nunez getting on the scoresheet...

I think as a striker if you don't score for a little bit it could get in your head but I don't really see that with the guys. I think they're pushing each other. We see how Cody plays, for example, [in the] first half. [He was] outstanding. Diogo then comes in and makes another goal. It's really good to see that. We have to keep pushing each other in order to stay hungry. We have the hunger in the team so let's give it [our] all.

On moving to the top of the Premier League table...

It's December so we won't think too far ahead. I'm very pleased because it's our last game for us of the year. Now it's time to have a little bit of time together with our family and then we focus on Newcastle. Then we will see. We will focus on ourselves and we will see by February and March how the table looks. We are definitely hoping to be up there and competing with the others. Let's see where we could be.
