AcademyU21s match report: Trent Kone-Doherty scores as Liverpool draw with Derby in PL2
It was the 17-year-old’s first start in the division and he fired Barry Lewtas’ charges in front on 56 minutes, in a game that was played at Alfreton Town’s Impact Arena.
The home side rallied and levelled 10 minutes from time when Dajaune Brown pounced to beat Fabian Mrozek.
Attacking midfielder Kieran Morrison and right-back Josh Davidson made their U21s debuts for the Reds as second-half substitutes.
Reflecting on the game, U21s head coach Lewtas told Liverpoolfc.com: “We started well and in the first half an hour we had lots of control and created some good chances.
“To be fair, they came back at us second half and in the end, it’s a tough week for the lads playing on Monday and Friday, so we’ll take the point.
“We had a young team out. Luca Stephenson played at centre-half and did ever so well, Tom Hill made his first start for a while, played for an hour as a No.6 and did very well. It’s just great to have him back.
“Trent scored a nice goal for us and it was nice to see him get his first goal in Premier League 2.”
