AcademyU18s reaction: 'We played really good football and created an awful lot of chances'
The young Reds produced some sparkling football and scored through Kareem Ahmed and Josh Sonni-Lambie, who netted his sixth goal of the campaign.
The U18s were boosted with the availability of Trey Nyoni and Carter Pinnington from the U21s squad – plus Rio Ngumoha, who was a key performer for the U19s in their midweek UEFA Youth League victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
Read on as Bridge-Wilkinson spoke to Liverpoolfc.com about the three well-deserved points and quality of his young players…
On a good victory for his side…
We played lots of really good football, scored two really goals and we created an awful lot of good chances and had some good moments in the game.
On having Nyoni, Ngumoha and Pinnington available to play…
It was fantastic. First and foremost, they are all great boys and have great character and attitude. They have also got really good personalities, they just love to play football whether they are training with the first team or playing with the U18s and U21s. They all just want to improve and that’s the best thing about it.
On the ability of Ngumoha…
He enjoyed himself out there. We know the type of player that Rio is and we also know that he missed a lot of time away from the pitch and missed a lot of pre-season, so he is playing catch-up. I think as his time here goes on we will see a lot more from Rio.
On Ahmed and Sonni-Lambie on the scoresheet again…
It’s great to see. Kareem and Josh have been doing well up front together and it was nice to see their hard work on the training pitch rewarded with the goals.
