CommunityTrent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones call for fans to support foodbank drive on derby day
Fans are asked to support in whatever way they can. Hunger doesn’t wear club colours and so whether a Red or a Blue, show your support for the city and donate non-perishable food items at Flagpole Corner ahead of the 12.30pm BST kick-off on Saturday.
Matchday donations are crucial to supporting foodbank hubs like the North Liverpool Foodbank and these hubs act as a community lifeline to those in need.
Fans Supporting Foodbanks was founded in 2015 and is a joint initiative between Liverpool FC and Everton FC, promoting a global message of football solidarity because hunger doesn’t wear club colours.
It started with just three fans collecting tins of food on matchdays and now supplies a massive 25 per cent of all donations to North Liverpool Foodbank.
Collection points for Saturday’s derby at Anfield are Flagpole Corner, located outside the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand, the Anfield superstore on Walton Breck Road, as well as Homebaked bakery on Oakfield Road.
The Flagpole Corner collection point is open three hours before kick-off and remains open for 15 minutes after kick-off. Food can be dropped off at the Anfield superstore during its opening hours and at Homebaked before kick-off.
Some of the key items on the foodbank’s priority list include:
- Cereal
- Soup
- Beans/spaghetti
- Tomatoes/pasta sauce
- Vegetables
- Instant mash
- Dried pasta sauce
- Tinned meat/fish/fruit
- Rice pudding
